This has been a hugely busy season at Sugar, with lots of newcomers who are not flying this season but will make the drive. For the most part, the staff have done a good job of enforcing mask rules. The ski patrol has someone at the main chair loading maze almost all day every day advising people to cover up before they enter the line. I've been skiing at Sugar for many years, and this year has been like no other. That is probably true at every ski resort, but each independent place has to figure stuff out on its own. I think Sugar has been vigilant in enforcing COVID restrictions, although I would not ride the shuttle bus for reasons pointed out in other reviews. Walk. ... Avis complet

I rode the lift six times. A ski patrol person was policing for masking on only one of my lift rides. The other five times there was no one and 50% at best were properly wearing masks. There was no (NONE) social distancing on the fully packed chairs. The shuttle bus driver did not enforce the mask policy if there was one. Half of the passengers had no mask. Let's just say they need to learn how to talk to people. The security is young and green and chased my son from the slopes into the lodge he retreated to me like he was told to do . he accidentally vered of out of bounds. He is new at snowboarding and it was a accident.. The security officer put his life in danger by chasing him and telling him. He was going to remove his ski pass. It was his last run for the day and we were finished.. not to mention we couldn't ski the day before too crowded and came back the next day. First of all you do not take someone's property nor chase them and put them at risk the security staff was very unprofessional. He was out of breath and clearly disoriented during the persut of a scared young man. And other member bark at you to where a mask outside .. ! Any who is a father this may have turned out badly.. do not threatened my family to remove there property or cause them to get hurt running from you. The staff needs some retraining on respect. I have been skiing for over 40 years and have never experienced anything like my interaction with this resort. The management was incredibly rude. I have never written a bad review of any business in my entire life but as a business owner myself I felt compelled to do my part and tell customers to stay away from this resort. Hopefully the resort can get a good management team in the future because the location is really nice but the experience is terrible. The end to the story was we couldn’t even go skiing that day because of serious coordination issues. There was no parking and they oversold tickets (we bought ours the night before with no refund). By the way this was during COVID where there was supposed to be some type of limit on ticket sales yet they couldn’t even handle the parking for the “limited” tickets sold. Something doesn’t add up???? If you are in the area I recommend going to one of the other great options!!... Avis complet

I love sugar mountain! I have been here twice just when i learned to ski and it was awesome! The second time is when i learned blues but Gunthers way looked epic. The 6 person lift is very fast and Flying mile is super fun. There are some mogels even on greens and some lifts were closed. You could not exatly see at the top but it was cloudy and they were making ALOT of snow. The terrain park was closed (like always) and its icy. Other than that, Amazing!... Avis complet

Want to give a huge shout out to Diane in the Administrative Office! We had a very unfortunate incident at the mountain in January 2021 and Diane went above and beyond to help us! A Ski Area is so much more than conditions and weather. Congrats Sugar Mtn for having such wonderful staff like Diane! We will always think of you Diane and will stop in to say hello and thank you again, whenever we come back up. You rock!... Avis complet

I would have done zero stars if this system would have let me. I have been skiing for over 50 years in many different places in the USA, New England, NY, CA, CO, (and patrolling for 15 of those years) and this is the most backward messed up place I have ever skied at. They are not accommodating and really only care about collecting your green backs. Nothing more. Lift attendants stood like zombies, no assistance, they wouldn't "catch" the chairs or assist in any way, they didn't even clean the ice off of the slow moving chair seats. The most important thing for them was to scan your ticket with a ticket gun, slowing up the lift queue. One time while in line, a ski patroller was fixing ropes and as he walked past me said "excuse me" and then shoved me into my daughter, nearly knocking both of us over. Thanks! COVID/Health INFO: Fully one third of the people we encountered in lift lines and in the lodge were either not wearing a mask or not wearing it properly. And distancing? Forget that. I actually had to tell a bare faced teen to stand away from me. He was polite and moved. I saw many people drinking while waiting for tickets and in lift lines and one guy sitting next to me on the chair took a swig of his gentleman jack, telling me how much the ski patrol hated that. Me too. I made sure we skied a different trail. This was our first trip here. I brought two of my teens with me on MLK weekend. We drove 5 hours to be able to ski. On Saturday, we got in line for tickets at 8AM so we could get tickets when they opened at 9, before they sold out at 10. A local gave us this tip. We waited in line for 4 hours while the facility went through multiple power outages with phone problems after restoring power. Apparently, they were running on the generator, and it quit. Don't they have a main line to the utility? Especially on the busiest weekend of the year? Finally, we got tickets at 12pm and were able to ski. The next day, we were there at 8 am again, much shorter line. My beginner was feeling sore and figured he wanted to ski a half day (after noon only) instead, and go tubing in the morning. No morning half days, so we got 2 full days and were told to come back at noon to buy the half day ticket. My son went off to go tubing for the morning ($36 for 1 3/4 hours). He waited in line only to be told that they were sold out. The mountain only sells 120 tickets for tubing for each time slot with a maximum buy of 6 tickets per person. So the first 20 people in this long line for tubing could theoretically buy out that run of tubing. No advanced tubing sales. He would have had to stand in line hours, possibly the whole day, just to go tubing. We met up at lunch and I went to buy the half day ticket I was told I could buy. The ticket window was closed. All sold out. Huh? Half day tickets sold out before they even open the window (it was not even noon yet? After being routed to administration I got the answer. They sold out capacity of full day tickets. Thus, they won't be selling half day tickets. WELL THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO KNOW WHEN I WAS BUYING TICKETS AT 8AM!!!!!!! So now my third skier can't. Management would not sell me one half day ticket for any reason. But I could come back at 5 and buy a night ticket. After being gouged the day before and jerked around like that today, why the hell would I want to come back here at all? Ever? My son was able to go skating for 1 3/4 hours for $36. He had fun so it was not a total bus for him. On my way to the car with my daughter, to pick up my son from the tubing/skating park we encountered a couple booting up to start their day. They had come the night before to buy advance tickets between 8 and 9 pm but could only get full day tickets when they could only ski half a day. Advance sales don't sell half day tickets. On my way up the lift one time the man sitting next to me told how he was in line open Saturday, to get tickets and a lesson when the power went out, and actually helped the staff shovel out a transformer. After putting in the effort and helping he asked for an extra hour lesson, discounted ticket, or something. NO! he was told. He dropped his shovel and went home and came back on Sunday. A girl that was riding with us on another run informed us that the reason why the chairs that I noticed weren't running we idle was due to lack of staff. If the management treats their staff like they treat their customers, no wonder they didn't have enough staff. Food was mediocre. two slabs of "Chicken Tenders" on fries cost $13.75. Mac and cheese = $5. Hamburger = $10. Locker rental $15. We didn't rent skis, but there are cheaper places with good gear along the road on the way in. I understand this was one of the busiest weekends for skiing. I still think their gouging prices, inability to satisfy this customer (I normally don't complain), and staff that apparently doesn't care is reason enough to stay away. We will never come back. Go to West Virginia. I hear they have better skiing and nicer staff. ... Avis complet

Hey James Wright, I agree with your rating of Sugar but marvel at how people like you can make EVERYTHING political. I am a staunch conservative, skied all day yesterday and didn't discuss politics with anyone once; NOR DID I have any confrontations with other skiers or security because I am a respectful, decent person who leaves people to their form their own opinions and doesn't project his ridiculous, stilted and wrong-headed opinions about his political opposites as you do. Stop being angry and just learn to enjoy life and be careful about pronouncinh who's guilty of tearing America apart; I usually find those who scream the lowdest do so because they're the real culprits. Sugar is great, family-friendly fun but I do think you should be able to buy tickets online.... Avis complet
