Castle Mountain Resort is a hidden gem in Southern Alberta. Both of my children learned to snowboard here - seamlessly graduating from the Green Chair (beginner only terrain) to the Huckleberry and Blue Chairs (intermediate terrain), and finally the Red Chair (experienced terrain). The point is, there’s something for everyone - and if you can’t find it, you’re doing it wrong. The best runs I have ever had (I’ve snowboarded them all in Western Canada) have been off the Red Chair after a dump. Castle Mountain has a reputation for boom and bust, but the addition of the Huckleberry Chair a few seasons back introduced a much more reliable face to the mountain that holds decent groomers in even the most modest conditions. Beyond that, the history of Castle Mountain is one of perseverance - the community takes nothing for granted. It is a special place and everyone is in on the secret. Because it’s not a mega resort, the infrastructure is a little more “traditional”. But anytime lost in lift speed is made up by the general lack of lift lines. The independent nature of the mountain is also reflected in its pricing, which is very reasonable during a time when alpine sports are becoming cost prohibitive. Overall, I deeply recommend Castle Mountain Resort to anyone who truly loves skiing or snowboarding - this place will be your Mecca.
