I live in Vancouver and have skied in most of BC's ski areas. Every ski area in BC gets compared to Whistler, so for Sun Peaks: - There is not as much hair-raising terrain as at Whistler, and Sun Peaks has no runs where you look down between the tips of your skis to see the bottom of the run below. - Lift lines are usually non-existent, unlike Whistler. Although Whistler is a much larger ski area, it a major international destination and it is an easy day trip for 2.5 million people in greater Vancouver, so weekends in particular are very crowded at Whistler. _ There is far more ski-in ski-out accommodation at Sun Peaks. - Whistler usually has more snow but it is closer to the coast and has a warmer and wetter environment, and there could be some rain at any time of year followed by freezing temperatures that create icy ski runs. At Sun Peaks the temperature usually goes below freezing in November and doesn't get above freezing until mid to late March. - The village at Sun Peaks is better than the villages at other ski areas in the interior of BC but it cannot compare to Whistler. When I was young a weekend in Whistler was really something to look forward to ("Babe-a-lonia" to young guys) but now I'm married with kids and I prefer Sun Peaks. I think John from the UK who didn't like the lifts at Sun Peaks must have been skiiing on some of the older ones, in particular the Burfield chair which was the longest in North America when it was installed in the 1960s. It accesses some great terrain but it has not been upgraded and it takes 22 minutes from bottom to top, although there are plans to terminate it at mid-station because the top will be accessed by the relocated Crystal chair. The high-speed detachable lifts are Sundance, Sunburst and Morrissey. Unlike him, I think the prices at Sun Peaks are fairly average for North American ski resorts and much lower than at Whistler. The village has a decent selection of restaurants but his comment about disappointing après-ski is accurate if he is looking for nightlife other than a couple of pubs that clear out fairly early. Sun Peaks is a 4 hour drive for me, but my wife and kids and I go there for about 3 or 4 weekends during ski season. The other BC interior ski areas that I like are Silver Star and Big White, but compared to them Sun Peaks is an hour less driving time each way from Vancouver, has more difficult runs and usually has better conditions, and has a nicer village and amenities. Revelstoke is a great and very challenging ski resort but for me it's too far for weekend trips. ... Avis complet

I'm from the UK and this is probably the worst out dated ski resort I've skied in 20 years, 1,the lifts are very out dated 2,the lift pass system out dated 3,resort is very expensive and boring 4,no mountain restaurants 5,do you now what apres ski is 6,town is very out dated and a RIP off 7,all the hotels and rooms are very very out dated I would not recommend this resort to any one and watch out for the false sun peaks advertising on how great the place is as it is not.... Seems like grooming is not being adequately performed this year. For example grooming was done on the ninth about 6pm with snow expected. Consequently on the 10th ski conditions were terrible, with a lot of powder being shoved into mounds and none of the ones I saw had any grooming. even on the beginners slope. I don’t understand why when conditions are like that there is no grooming in the morning, or even during the day on some runs. Just shut these runs down for an hour or two.... Avis complet

Great family resort with a cute village. Most of the properties are ski-in/ski-out. Lots of terrain with something for everyone and short lineups... Avis complet

We had a couple of weeks skiing in SP and never got bored. There’s enormous variety of runs if you’re prepared to go searching. Rarely had problems with queues or crowded slopes. We’re heading back to SP again in Feb 2020 from Oz so will have a better idea of where to ski depending on snow and weather conditions. Definitely not a resort for young ski bums looking for post-skiing excitement as there’s only limited bars and restaurants. ... Avis complet

Snow is always in great condition, groomers are perfectly maintained, if powder day enough terrain over the 3 mountains to put a huge grin on your face. If you have kids they can roam around the mountain and the village in complete safety. and the apres is definitely not extravagant, but perfect to just chill and relax. ... Avis complet

We love this resort. If you need cliffs to jump off, then ok this isn’t your place. But if you want a lot of terrain, with runs of every skill level off every chairlift, a decent little village, and zero crowds, you can’t go wrong with Sun Peaks. But don’t come because I like the empty feel of the slopes. ... Avis complet

Sun Peaks is the McDonalds of skiing. It was built as a corporate project and feels like it. Boring and bland, but you know what you are getting. It appeals to gapers and families and the sterile and over-planned village is perfect for them. Interesting nightlife is non-existent. Annual snow levels are very low compared to other resorts in BC and AB. But SP is a real estate project, so that doesn't matter. If you want challenge, variety and an exciting winter skiing and boarding destination, look elsewhere. If the highlight of your holiday is the high calorie cinnamon bun in the soulless cafe, followed by a few runs with your kids on a flat, safe blue run, then Sun Peaks is for you. ... Avis complet
